DuckDuckGo is an Internet search engine that focuses on privacy and was named after the childhood game duck duck goose. This engine protects your personal information while you search, allowing for anonymity. Originally started with a focus on instant answers and spam filtering, privacy was later added to the equation. The Founder and CEO is Gabriel Weinberg and the company is located in Paoli , Pennsylvania. According to their blog, the site is being redesign to incorporate user feedback such as images, places and auto-complete with smarter answers. The next version of DuckDuckGo is scheduled for release next month, but that all depends on user feedback.

  • This search engine does not provide personalized search results as it does not store your previous searches.
  • There is a pop-up box above the links that contains instant answers so there is no reason to click.
  • There is no 'next page', you just scroll down the page and new results automatically load on the page. By clicking on the page icons you get more information for that page.
  • The developers work with open source contributors around the world through DuckDuckHack.com for instant returns on your searches.
  • Official sites are place on top of the search results and labeled as such.
  • You can also customize the page by changing the color, layout and probably more via the settings tab which I will use during my trial.
  • You can type your search term followed by an exclamation mark and the site you would like to search, DuckDuckGo searches that site for your term (this is called a !bang). The most common sites have shortcuts i.e., !a for Amazon, !w for Wikipedia !yt for YouTube etc.
  • And of course, don’t forget in addition to instant answers and spam filtering, DuckDuckGo protects your privacy.

Finally, there is a DuckDuckGo community where you will find all things pertaining to DuckDuckGo such as:
  • Translate DuckDuckGo
  • Join forums
  • Browse the blog
  • Chat
  • Develop the site
  • Develop instant answers
  • Spread DuckDuckGo
  • Submit feedback
  • Talk with RoboDuck
I have started my week trial to determine if I would like this search engine, and one of my sites is third in the results. I think I’m going to love DuckDuckGo! Why not join me in this adventure/experience? You can do so by going to the bottom of the new home page and setting DuckDuckGo as your default browser.

I hope this comeback article is of help to you as it was a suggestion from one of my classmates. As always, please email me with topics you are interested in knowing more about and let’s have a good time learning together.

In His service,
