...1954 – Computer pioneer Alan Turing found dead of an apparent suicide. He made major contributions in the fields of Mathematics, cryptoanalysis, logic, philosophy, biology, computer science, cognitive science, artificial intelligence and artificial life1

...1979 – CompuServe was the first to offer email and the technical support for this application to personal computer users. The following year, the company continued in this vein to be the first to offer real-time chat2
